Good news and a good opportunity …

What a beautiful thing it is to have such a balmy day at the end of November!   Now don’t get me wrong …. at any time of year we can put a fine day like this to good use.    But it is simply a fact of life that mild days are more of a treat after our first brush with winter.

On a day like this, the dogs do not wonder why swimming in the upper pond is a bit like Alice’s jam.    Fine for today … but not yesterday and likely not tomorrow either!    They do not dither about the forecast.   They never have a big fat debate about the sensibility of swimming so late in the season.    No sir!    Straight, sweet and simple … if the water is warm enough that is good enough for them 🙂

Really is that not one of the best bits about living with pets?   That they completely and utterly embody the spirit of Carpe Deum?     That no matter what cards the past has dealt, they are still ready and willing to ‘love the one they’re with’ when fate hands them a fresh chance?  That no matter how humans have erred with them in the past that pets are divine at forgiveness?

Last week, I was moved to talk about the five little dogs that had come into the care of The Antigonish SPCA.     How sad for them to be so matted and dirty!   To have never once had such a basic pet care thing as a vet visit!     What a marvelous difference their first trip to the groomer made!

So how are they doing?    What do you think?    Dogs do not bring our human hangups to the table!    They have ‘seized their new day’ and are all owning it in spectacular style!

To nobody’s surprise, Tia the puppy was adopted out last night!    Cami, the four-year old Shih Tzu has an approved adoption and will be going to her new home on Saturday!    Mia hasn’t been listed yet because she has to wait to be spayed because her milk is still in, but if I was a betting woman I would lay odds there will be a Happy Tail for her pretty darned soon.     Its been a busy week that they haven’t even had a chance to process any of the several applications for Rico yet!     And best of all, a little birdie has told me that fourteen year old Walter may be meeting the new love of his life tomorrow!

Wow!     What a busy week for the branch!    But of course here in the rescue world, a woman’s work is never done.    The branch is bursting with pussycats, so they have also begun a very special adoption initiative for its beautiful adult cats called All the Love for Half the Price!

For the next two weeks, kind hearts can adopt an adult kitty for 50% of the Branch’s regular adoption fees.   What does that mean in realspeak?   Why of course that for the incredibly reasonable sum of fifty-five dollars, folks can bring home a new buddy who has already been vaccinated, spayed or neutered, microchipped, treated for parasites, tested for feline leukaemia and FIV and has received a vet examination.  Wow!

But that is not really even the best bit.     Adult cats are already as big and beautiful as they are going to get and there is no guess-work about their personalities.     That makes it much easier to find the kindred spirit one is looking for, eh?

What time is it?   It is time to spread the word about All the Love for Half the Price!   Who knows what wonderful things might come of that?

PS … it is also always time to remember that adopting a cat saves two lives, because the rescue or shelter or branch will then have room for one ‘more at the inn’.     🙂
